Rob Cowles has been a member of the State Senate since 1987 when he was elected in a special election after serving two terms in the Assembly. Senator Cowles has built reputation as a fiscal hawk through his strong adherence to fiscal conservatism. Senator Cowles believes that budgets should be developed honestly without using tax increases or accounting tricks to give the illusion of a balanced budget.
During the 2011-12 Legislative Session, Senator Rob Cowles chaired the Senate Committee on Energy, Biotechnology and Consumer Protection, served on the Joint Committee on Information Policy and Technology, and co-chaired the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.
Senator Cowles won a Summer 2011 recall against Nancy Nusbaum, receiving 57.44% of the vote.
